May 6, 2020 - Los Angeles-based trio Fast Friends unveil a bold and timely new single titled “We Broke The World” today, alongside an incredibly innovative video featuring a deepfake rendition of the track sung by many familiar faces. The band wrote the spirited tune in mid-2018, attesting that they have “been on this whole ‘everything is crumbling, probably best to hole up’ vibe for a long ass time.” FF’s debut EP HI T LO IQ will be released on July 10, 2020 via Dine Alone Records.

The video kicks off with an image of Guy Fieri staring you right in the eyes and singing, “...big fucking house at the end of the road...I don’t even care if you take birth control no more,” and gets more surreal from there. The deepfake video was created by Dexter Tortoriello, the brainchild behind Houses and features a host of beloved and hated personalities across the celebriity spectrum popping up throughout.

Dexter had been in L.A. working on a new Houses record with Ryan and Tom from FF when he first heard their track for ‘We Broke The World’. Says Tortoriello, "At the beginning of this year, the top minds of computer science published an academic paper detailing a new model of generating “deepfake” videos using only a single photograph of the target. Anyone could be turned into a puppet, and people were terrified and amused. After they played me the track, it was stuck in my head for days. The song is really trashy and immediate and it felt like a really good idea to utilize this brand new bleeding edge tech to create something super dumb and immature. I barely even graduated fucking high school, but I've watched some coding videos on YouTube, and that turned out to be good enough. A few weeks later I’m stuck in quarantine summoning Ronald McDonald to scream bloody murder and nothing is real anymore. I ask myself if Guy Fieri would have actually been in the video if we paid him enough. I tell myself he probably would. I wonder what will happen when the bad guys get a hold of this tech. I wonder if maybe I’m actually the bad guy. Oprah appears on my desktop and reassures me that I am not."

Fast Friends continue, “We’ve all been making a mess for so goddamn long that we don’t even see the actual mess we’re making anymore. There’s got to be a breaking point, right? A peak oil moment. A Sting jumping around in tights moment. A Chris Paul and Blake Griffin’s whining is just getting to be too much moment.” In the single artwork, “you can see the three of us as time traveling immortals, pleasantly watching the comic foibles of the crusades, a few hundred years ahead of a global pandemic moment.”

Fast Friends don’t create music for music’s sake. According to them, “That’s super boring. It only matters if you are saying something that you are desperate to say and that you are scared to say and that you don’t think anyone else is going to say.” What the 3-piece of reticent hitmakers have discovered is the formula to making catchy pop songs sound very loud and making people feel uncomfortable.

Comprised of notable songwriters and producers - Tom Peyton from the San Francisco Bay Area, Ryan Spraker from Boston, and Frederik Thaae from Denmark - the like-minded collective started hanging out in L.A. in 2015 when they accidentally wrote a rock song together, then another one, and another, until they realized that the only way the songs were going to come out was if they started a band and put it out themselves. With individual resumes that boast writing and producer credits for artists like Weezer, X Ambassadors, Pitbull, Panic! At The Disco, Arkells, and notably The Glorious Sons’ latest JUNO Award nominated album A War On Everything, Fast Friends find themselves in an enviable position of putting out music whenever they feel like.
