Short and sweet keeps on repeating in my head, as I listen to the record in question: "The Skeptic" available via pre-orders because it's not released until tomorrow! This ten track full length LP is the third release by: "Dance Gavin Dance" lead vox - Tilian Pearson. Along with short and sweet, there is "what does Google want from my life?" floating around my A.D.D brain as I try to pay attention to the music playing. Apparently, the font is too small, from what I know 16px is the usual website font size, but sure Google, just for you I made the paragraphs 20px
As with all the records reviewed by moi, they are played as I go on about my life. Listening to a record and adding words to a page is simple. Creating a full out, critiqued artist review takes a bit more intellect, than just throwing a few sentences together. Unique we all are, but some are a little more different than others, good different and bad as in psycho cannibals. This record is unique in a good way, nobody sounds like Tilian right now, and his music is sounding mainstream top 40 capable.
Compared to Pearson's bands' tunes, this record is definitely on the softer, more emo side, with catchy formulaic songs like the first single "Cocky". The single is just a taste of what Tilian has to offer on this creative musical composition. The hardest track on the album musically. is; "Handsome Garbage", only because of the dirty guitar at the beginning. Vocals are very soft, a little over produced with the auto-tune effects. Pearson's voice is reminiscent of a edgier, grittier, raspier Dallas Green from "City And Colour".
Everyone knows I'm hard on vocals ha ha, so if I don't get goosebumps at least once, its alright. Track nine "Right Side" reminds me of a "One Republic" song. My favourite sonatas on the album have to be "Gone", "Blame it On Rock n' Roll" which should be the next single and "Drunken Conversations" my ears were dancing to.
If you get a chance to see Tilian rock out live, take the chance to go see him, buy tickets and VIP packages HERE! I heard his Toronto set was super packed he will definitely get bumped to a bigger venue next time! Joanna was able to drop by the set and grab a few shots...This record is definitely more relatable and modern, than most crop dusters out there shaping the soundscape of the airwaves. See, short and sweet dabbadee dabba da...Buy Tilian's record HERE! (Only available for pre-sale purchase until midnight tonight!)
